The Mother Act is one year old today! I’m spending her birthday madly trying to finish edits on her baby sister, i.e. Book #2, which is also part of the reason I haven’t been sending out newsletters. (In addition to various other reasons, such as getting shingles and being for one reason and another in survival mode for a solid month/season/all of 2025 so far. Perhaps you remember that I chose EASE as my word of the year? Yes, yes I did. 2025 is providing me lots of opportunity to attempt accessing a spirit of ease through some profound DISease.)
But, one year ago today, exciting stuff was happening! And I wanted to take a little celebratory minute to thank those of you who were on the ride with me, supporting close up or from afar, reading and listening and letting me know what this novel meant to you.
So here’s a little pictorial tour of what was going on this week last year, with loads of love and thanks to my agent Arielle Datz, my editors Sarah Jackson, Lexy Cassola, and Pilar Garcia-Brown, and the many booksellers, podcast hosts, and members of the production, marketing, and publicity teams who worked hard to get this story into the world.
We had a lot of fun! I’m honestly not just faking it for the pictures. There’s more to say about this complex journey of publishing than I can dash off just now, but I did work hard to enter into this experience in a way that felt authentic and empowering and was as much as possible on terms that felt at least a bit my own, and this week in 2024 really was beautiful, connected, celebratory, and fun.
